A solo and chamber artist in classical music, American percussionist Robert Rocheteau is known for his vibrant and refined interpretations. Robert is an ardent advocate for the classical solo percussion artform. He performs the masterpieces of the 21st and 20th centuries and collaborates with today’s esteemed composers to create new music. Recent highlights include performances at the International Festival of Arts and Ideas, the Sound Scene Festival at the Hirschorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, and multiple performances at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Robert is an in-demand chamber musician who regularly collaborates with artists from around the globe. Robert can be seen performing with various duo and trio combinations, string quartets, and numerous other mixed chamber ensembles. Robert recently released a single entitled Fresh Air by Micah Levy for marimba and trumpet, and he is performing a program featuring the marimba with string quartet in the 2025-26 season.
Robert devotes a large portion of his artistry to his pierrot plus percussion ensemble The Victory Players. Robert is a founding member of The Victory Players, and they are the ensemble-in-residence to the historic Victory Theatre in Holyoke, Massachusetts. The ensemble prides itself in being a diverse new voice in contemporary classical music that reaches a broad range of audiences. Recent highlights include a gala performance at the Sala Sinfónica Pablo Casals in Puerto Rico as well as residencies at Yale University and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Robert is the Director of Percussion Studies at the Sunderman Conservatory of Music at Gettysburg College. Robert holds degrees from the Peabody Conservatory, University of Maryland College Park, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. His teachers were Robert van Sice, Ayano Kataoka, Jon Bisesi, Jauvon Gilliam, Shaun Tilburg, and Thomas Hannum.
